WOW!!!  This week went FAST!  We learned so much about school and how to be a Warrior Way Student.  Please ask your child about what it means to be a Warrior Way Student.  It was very nice to learn about your child from their All About Me poster.  Thank you for taking the time to create it with them. 

 Language Arts

We tried to start Language Arts this week but didn’t get very far because of needing to take time to introduce more school routines.  There’s so much for kindergarten students to learn before we can actually get into academics.  Below you will read about what types of things we will be working on the next week.  Please make sure and go through the Family Times that will be sent home on Mondays.  (You received one this week because I thought we would have time for Language Arts, but didn’t.  You will not receive a new one on Monday.  The one you got this week will be for next week.  After that, you will get a new one each Monday.)

Student Teacher

We are so very lucky to have Mrs. Whitaker spending the first seven weeks with us.  Here’s a little bit about her… My name is Lisa Whitaker, and I am completing my elementary education degree from Upper Iowa University.  Prior to coming to Norwalk, I was an assistant teacher at West Des Moines Christian Church Preschool for two years.  I live in West Des Moines with my husband Dean and our three boys, Grant, Jackson, and Pierce.  I am so excited to be student teaching in the Norwalk district and to work with Mrs. McLaughlin.  I am passionate about learning and will strive to make each day a valuable and meaningful experience for our students.  I look forward to getting to know your child and you over the next few weeks.

From the nurse's office:

I would like to remind parents that flip-flops are not a good choice of shoe for recess! Many injuries from the playground are coming into my office because of the shoes that students are wearing. Woodchips are cutting feet, children are slipping and falling on the metal play equipment, and metal ladder rungs while climbing, some have complained of "twisting" ankles because of attempting to run in flip-flops. Our play surface is partially hard surface, but much of it is wood mulch and small gravel. PLEASE send a change of shoes, i.e. tennis shoes for recess. Your child can wear sandals to school but appropriate shoes are recommended for outdoor recess.Thank you!Leigh VanderHolt, RN, BSNOviatt Elementary School Nurse
